BBC micro:bit

Designed for kids, BBC micro:bit course is a series of 2 modules, 10 lessons in total, one hour per lesson. Our courses are based on lessons published on microbit.org. Although not required, parents and guardians are encouraged to attend the class with kids to understand the STEM education.

How students learn micro:bit

Try one of tutorials at MakeCode. Choose “Flashing Heart” in “Tutorials”. You don’t need a micro:bit!

Target

The course is suitable for kids ages over 6 and the parents/guardians.

Prerequisites

Participants must be over 6 years.

Course objectives

  • Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
  • Have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve problems
  • Can evaluate and apply information technology
  • Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology

Course materials

In the course, the following materials are used.

  • A computer
  • BBC micro:bit
  • A USB cable

All materials are provided. The micro:bit and the USB cable are complementary.

  • Programming code on Microsoft MakeCode
  • Uploading the code to BBC micro:bit
  • Variables in algorithms and programs
  • Analysing, programming and evaluating step-counters

Assignment

Participants will demonstrate their achievements by creating an original code.
